This post has been titled thanks to a Christmas Honduran song by Victor Donaire. In the recent years, it has become tradition in Honduras to visit different Christmas villages along with the family or friends. So, I will show you some of them and the different decorations in the beautiful Tegucigalpa.
What are the Christmas Villages?
They are Christmas parks where people can only go from December 1 to January 6, (6 -9 pm) with free access. Those villages are decorated only with Christmas lights, having different scenarios, characters and as a main attraction a Christmas tree. You can find also at parks diverse Honduran traditions such as Christmas mangers and typical food sale.
Christmas Villages in Tegucigalpa
In Honduras, villas can be found in December in the main cities of the country. As I live in the capital Tegucigalpa, I will show you the tour that I did and enjoyed a lot.
So we started with the Christmas Village located in “la villa olimpica”, a sports zone with many parks. There, you can find a karaoke and typical food sale. Even the decoration evokes our childhood with references to Disney characters along with decorations such as: houses, trains and candies.
The next one was the Christmas Village of the Peripheral Ring, the area is located between the main boulevards of the city. This village has more space to explore and decorations are larger. At the same time in the area, you can do a tour of the entire village by train but you can only get on if you buy an ice cream, nothing difficult at all.
One curiosity of the villages is always to have a religious approach along with an issue no related to Christmas, this time was road infrastructures. This mixture of ideas makes it fun to visit them because they merge different concepts, having a Christmas spirit wider.
I also visited the Christmas Village of the Honduran Air Force (FAH in spanish), the first days of January, which you can enjoy more because number of people is minimum. At this village, the decoration is more traditional, and of course you cannot miss the aviation topic. Something that I liked a lot was the open-air cinema and every night you can watch a different movie. In addition, you can find chritsmas mangers with animals, a sled and a house whose wall showed the good wishes of all who visited.
After visiting the FAH Village, we headed to the Christmas Village of the Armed Forces of Honduras (FFAA). Both are located in the same area at 10 minutes. This Village is located at the park “Campo Parada Marte” area of Mateo, Comayaguela. Here during the day you can exercise and children can ride their bicycles. Unlike the other villages, this one is focused on presenting Christmas mangers made with different decorations by each squad. For instance, figures made with mud and painted by Honduran artisans and nativity stables decorated with moss, very typical in Honduran tradition for the abundance of pine trees that grows in our region.
Although those villages are the most visited, I don’t mentioned others such as: Christmas village del Bazar del Sábado and the park in Col., Village Adela. However, Christmas villages are a success, so, every year more parks are adding villages. This is awesome because Christmas is a time to share with your family and loved ones.
I hope you liked this tour of my beloved city during the night. I say goodbye and I thank you for reading this article in my blog. Do not stop fulfilling your goals and dreams, remember life is for brave people.
