Hi, guys. Today, I would like to share some recipes to prepare brunch at home. In this way, you can surprise your family and friends with a delicious combination of dishes: eggs, fruits, and drinks.
Brunch is a combination of breakfast (Br) and lunch (unch). It is also great because the food is accompanied by an alcoholic drink (champagne or cocktail). So, on Sunday late into the afternoon, host your relatives to give them some delicious egg dishes, waffles, smoked meat, fruit, salads, cheese, and dessert.
Brunch egg recipes
Eggs are primordial when we talk about brunch. The most exciting part is to have a huge combination of egg recipes for brunch. Among them, we can find scrambled eggs, omelets or eggs benedict.
Scrambled eggs can be prepared only with eggs and salt or with many ingredients such as pepper, butter, milk, cream or grated cheese. Eggs are beaten and poured in a pan being mixed with all the ingredients. Unlike other ways to prepare eggs, scrambled eggs are not ideally browned so we recommend stirring it continuously and preferably use a thin pan. In addition, you can add a small amount of flour to avoid the eggs to stick to the pan for overcooking.
Unlike scrambled eggs, omelets don’t need to be stirred while it is heating. You can beat the eggs with milk, water or cream before pouring to a pan. For brunch presentation, the omelet can be folded with a filling of cheese, bacon/ham, mushrooms, or vegetables.
Eggs Benedict is the main egg style for brunch – it was popularized in lower Manhattan in New York City. This dish has traditionally two halves of an English muffin with a poached egg, hollandaise sauce, and ham or bacon. Also, you can surprise your guests replacing some ingredients. For instance, replace bacon and ham with smoked salmon, crab cake, crayfish or chorizo. However, if you are a strict vegan you can substitute the meat with spinach, tomatoes and other vegetables. If you don’t find hollandaise sauce you can use white cheddar, béchamel, mustard or any of your favorite sauce.
Drinks and fruit for brunch
Brunch is served with some drinks, such as coffee, tea, smoothies or fruit juices. These beverages are the most popular and widely consumed drinks in the world, after water. The main fruit juice for brunch is the traditional orange juice with different varieties, including Valencia, clementine, and tangerine. In addition, cut fruit pieces or fruit salad cannot miss in brunch.
Brew herbal tea
For tea, I recommend preparing brew herbal tea boiling water in a deep saucepan. You can put leaf tea directly in the saucepan or into a cup and then pour the water over it. Steeping time depends on the ingredients of tea, long times can origin a bitter taste. In general, the best time for steeping in herbal teas is around 2 and 5 minutes.
Cut fruit pieces and banana split
I like cutting the fruit in a playa bowl style being a mixture of pitaya, kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, coconut, banana, acai, kale and oatmeal. You can pour some yogurt, chocolate sauce or cream in the bowl.
In addition, you can replace the typical cut fruit piece by a fruit dessert like a banana split. This ice cream-based dish is served with some chocolate or caramel sauce and three scoops of ice cream between the split bananas. Lastly, you can decorate the dessert with a cherry on its top and whipped cream. So, you get ready to dig into this mouth-watering dessert.
Desserts and salads
Bakery products are the desserts for brunch, so you can taste some delicious cakes, cinnamon rolls, croissants, pancakes or the typical toasts and bagels. Otherwise, you can add some food not associated with breakfast. For example, a soup, sandwiches, smoked salmon and salads such as Cobb and Caesar salad.
For a brunch, I love to prepare some delicious pumpkin pancakes to eat with the drink. All you need is to have the following ingredients: cups all-purpose flour, cup white sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, pumpkin puree, 1 beaten egg, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Stir all the ingredients in a bowl, heat a lightly oiled griddle, drop batter onto the griddle, flip and cook until browned on the other side.
Once pancakes are cooked, you can pour some maple syrup or chocolate sauce and decorate with some strawberries and raisins.
Typical food for lunch
Brunch also includes food that is not related to breakfast, so you can cook some typical dishes at lunch, such as roasted meats, popcorn, soup, fries, sandwiches, smoked salmon, quiche, etc.
You can prepare quiche from a pastry or pie crust filled with different ingredients. So you can add eggs, shedding cheese, milk, cream, vegetables, meat or seafood. Beat together all the ingredients, and then whisk them. After combination, pour filling into crust and bake until about set –around 45 minutes.
